This week, I lucked out at Trader Joe’s and found some really sweet strawberries. I knew I wanted to incorporate them into my Valentine’s Day festivities, so I made them into little hearts! This is a great after school snack for kids or on top of breakfast waffles!
In order for your hearts to have good shape, the most important thing is to have a really sharp paring knife. If the knife is dull, you’ll have trouble carving in a circular motion and the strawberry will fall apart.
The first thing I do is cut the top off. Then, I slice it in half from top to bottom.
I create the heart shape carving UP and out. The sharp knife makes it very easy to trace the circular motion, without any struggle at all. After that, I turn the berry around and do the same on the other side. Lastly, remove the excess flesh and eat it!
Should you want your hearts to be flat, cut a little bit of flesh from behind so that the heart sits flat.
I must say, I had more fun making the uneven hearts! Don’t worry about perfection, it’s quite easy to tell what they are if you have the general shape.
This little treat is perfect for Valentine’s Day, but the sweetness works year round. Enjoy!
