I still can’t believe Valentine’s Day is here! Time flies by and it’s all the more reason to enjoy moments such as these to the absolute fullest. I still remember my first Valentine’s Day with Adam. Let me just point out he didn’t ask me out on Valentine’s Day, per se. His exact question was “do you have any plans on February 14?” Ok, awkward one. It took me by surprise since prior to that, he’d stated he only wanted to be friends right after I asked him out on our first date. What a change of heart, huh?
Any who, we went to a nice Italian restaurant and were having a great! Til I got a little too tipsy and on an unexpected bout of laughter, threw my right arm back and spilled my freshly poured glass all over the lady sitting on the table behind us. Oh, em, gee! We still laugh about it to this day! Ma’m, if you’re reading this, I’m still very sorry and this is my nervous laugh! I didn’t think he’d take me out again but years later, here we are spilling wine everywhere we go! Haha, just kidding, we don’t do that!
Since both my husband and I are morning folks, I’m thrilled to start the festivities bright and early in the morning. My bar cart has been sitting pretty since the holidays and so it dawned on me! A thoughtful breakfast bar with a few of our favorite foods would be a great way to jump start the day! If you don’t have a bar cart, there’s not need to fret! Clear our the top of your dresser and create a romantic station there!
First the flowers, of course!
Fresh flowers are an automatic mood booster in my book, so they are always around. I created a very simple arrangement consisting of pink roses and eucalyptus that I purchased at Trader Joes. I filled my white vase with water and it became the center of the entire breakfast bar. Remember to cut a bit of the stems and change the water daily in order to prolong their shelf life.
Next, I set up the drinks!
Coffee is king, served in our white ‘Relax’ mugs with a little cream on the side.
We enjoy almond milk and that was poured into my mini dairy jugs to which I added red stripped straws. So cute, right?!
Lastly, I served some green tea into my pink teacups and accompanied it with some key lime tea cookies since we LOVE key lime pie anything!
Now, the food!
I tried to make it easy on myself by using foods that weren’t too complicated or messy. The last thing I want is to feel overwhelmed on Valentine’s Day.
Who doesn’t love waffles?! Belgian waffles are so fluffy and surprisingly filling so they were on top of the list! I brought out my white cake stand to serve the waffles on and cut up some strawberries in the shape of hearts to go along with it. You can find that project here.
Adam and I love croissants (clearly you can tell we eat anything and everything) so I purchased some of those at the local bakery. Then I placed them on top of my gold hearted plates to match my gold flatware. You can find the plates over here!
Additionally, I bought some table scatter at the dollar store and used it sporadically throughout the bar cart.
Simple and easy makes are my favorite when planning anything!
Creating a beautiful and romantic space isn’t hard and you can certainly use all of the items you already have. It’s all about the two of you and the most important thing is to have fun! Happy Valentine’s Day, you lovebirds, you.
