Candidly speaking, Bloody Marys rarely sparked my interest. Don’t get me wrong, Vodka rules, but the thought of tomato juice mixed in wasn’t really doing it for me. Right before leaving for spring break, I had my very first one after a bit of morning scuba. I loved it. What’s more, I could have kicked myself for waiting 30 years to have it.
I set out for Colorado with two goals in mind: 1. Come back in one piece (as is the goal every spring) 2. Bloody Mary the heck out of Apres skiing. Incredibly enough, my taste buds acclimated immediately and I’ve grown to really enjoy the drink as a whole. I had some really simple ones, and others having the most amazing garnishes in the world (bacon!). By the end of the trip, I’d had enough of them to know just how I wanted my version of it to be. After some time spent in the lab, aka the kitchen, this one’s the keeper:
What you’ll need:
8oz of tomato juice
1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 teaspoon of Horseradish
1 1/2 teaspoon of sweet mustard
2 1/2 oz of Vodka
1 teaspoon of celery salt (plus a bit more for the rim of the glasses) this IS THE ULTIMATE SECRET INGREDIENT
Splash of lemon juice
Garnishes: 2 celery stalks, 2 slices of avocado, 2 large cooked (or precooked) shrimps
In a pitcher, mix all ingredients thoroughly. Place a slice of avocado and shrimp on rim. Add a celery stalk. Lastly, add ice to the drink before you take pictures for the blog…Oops 😉
Last, and most importantly, drink up!
