It’s week three of the ORC and this week one of the things we did was paint!! You can see the before pictures of this room here!!
Painting was a big deal to me, as my wood floors have a yellow tinge to them and with the creamy tone we previously had on the walls, it gave the entire space a eggie feel, which I dreaded for a while. This room faces the west, has corner windows and those windows are blocked by a couple of big palm trees we share with our neighbors. In other words, natural light isn’t in our favor her. I felt light a bright and ultra white color would pull in all the possible light and give it a much needed sense of openness.
Instantly the room looked bigger and more lively! The lovely people of Sherwin-Williams supplied the paint and I couldn’t be happier.
The color is called Snowbound. It is a semi gloss white, from their Emerald collection (which is both paint and primer in one). The color was really easy to apply and dried rather quickly. Be sure to check out your local Sherwin-Williams as they have a huge selection in store! I’m really looking forward to photographing this room throughout the day, as the bright white color keeps the room looking bigger for longer periods of time!
Next, we replaced the old vertical blinds. These blinds were pink (as the previous owners had a little girl that slept in this room). The shades were pink and between that and my red couch, there was a hot mess going on. Not to mention that it was all quite dated.
Initially I chose bamboo toned roman shades, we went back and forth and the measurements were just not working out for me. Ultimately, we decided to go with the Lowe’s Levolor faux blinds because of the color, texture and and the material. The color is a pecan hue and I think it will create a better contrast with the white walls in the end. The roman shades, though pretty still block off some light, even when pulled to the very top. Where as, these Levolor shades can be kept open, closed and/or pulled to the top.
We were able to get these cut to the size of our needs and they were quite easy to assemble! (for Adam, of course… I’ve yet to get my hands dirty). The color is a deeper brown and has a modern contrast to the white walls.
We’ve just got to work on those few little gaps on the windows and we can check that off our to-do list! A couple of other fun goodies just arrived annd I can’t wait to share it! Stay tuned for next week’s update!
