Feeling like you’re stick in a rut with your coffee table? I know, i feel ya. Sometimes the very reason I don’t move things around is simply because I haven’t got a game plan. Well, enough of that, you…(and me) You totally got this. To make it a bit easier on myself, I’ve acquired a few staples. These staples allow me to solidify the overall feel of the tablescape and room to let go, all the same. You don’t have to feel any pressure to buy anything, with a bit of creativity, it can certainly be accomplished. In order to obtain a beautifully styled coffee table, here’s what I do:
You can do this once, twice and even three times! What I mean by grounding is: BASE. In this case, I grounded twice! Once with books and once with a tray! I’ll elaborate more on the latter down below, now back to grounding! You’ll want do this, even if you have an awesome coffee tabletop to create flow! Books are a great tool for grounding. Covers are pretty, it gives your guests something to look at (no, not read, PICTURES) and it add layers of height. Long before, I had my home design books on display, I used cook books! What can I say? Pretty food gets me everytime. It still does. But seriously, you’ve got to have some books laying around that could be used on your coffee table. Any sort of book that may stimulate conversation will work. Wedding books, dog books, heck even your high school yearbook will do. Lest you forget.
I loveeeeeee flowers! You already know that, especially if you’ve visited me on Insta. A little bouquet of anything will pretty much liven anything your coffee table. In this case, I went to Trader Joes and bought a few bunches of the cheapest flower they had. Tada, my friends, it’s a beauty. Now, I know what you’re thinking; “it ain’t cheap, sista”. YOU’RE TELLING ME. You can certainly take from your garden (or your neighbor’s) garden to make this happen. When I feel I can splurge, I like to buy a bulk of the most inexpensive flowers to create a more dramatic look. You can do the same or make something beautiful out of simple clippings. You’re certainly creative enough.
Incorporate one, or more statement piece(s):
Not only is this fun, but an opportunity to showcase your style. Are you groovy and feel psychedelic? Are you moody and bold? Do you flow with beach vibes? Whatever the case, let it shine. I’m into nature and felt kinda woodsy this time and it shows. No pun intended, I promise. This mannequin sign was so up my alley when I first got it and I was excited to add it to table. I wanted a bit more and my little alligator came to steal the show! He’s a cutie, totally from Florida. Also, did you know my antler is real? yeap! The boys found it hiking in NY! Mainly the idea behind the statement piece is to keep your coffee table decor from feeling jaded. Feel free to be as funky as you want, don’t hold back!
AL.WAYS. Don’t stop, don’t hesitate. Candles are the essence of al things cozy and intimate. It creates a mood for family, friends, and even for you, when alone. It adds a warm effect to the entire look. But, why should there only one or two of the same type. Nah, homie. That’s not good enough for me. I want it all. Tall ones, short ones, modern ones, and traditional ones. As you can see, I added 2 styles of candles to the coffee table and no one got hurt in the making. They add personality and tells YOU (the reader) that I like more than one style. That’s ok, right? Go on and get those old candle holders that have been collected dust for 3= years. They’re making a comeback, trust me. Ambiance, lighting, mood, just a few of the benefits of adding candles to your coffee table decor.
Make Something Out of Nothing:
By nothing, I don’t really mean nothing. I mean nothing you’d generally wouldn’t see on the coffee table. Can you guess what item I’m referring to? The wooden tray isn’t really a tray. It’s a cutting board. Take that, Eisntein. The knife marks are on the flip side, and considering the bottom looked decent enough, I decided to use it as a tray. I’d say those apples look pretty darn ripe from here. ;). You see? You can potentially have more than one purpose for certain items around your home. A cutting board is a great item to repurpose when possible. As long as it’s clean, you’re good to go!
I hope these tips inspire you. On the flip side, send me some of your tricks!
XO, K 🙂
